St. Vincent
St. Vincent es el nombre artístico de Annie Clark, multi-instrumentalista canadiense (debería renombrar este blog a "Montreal - Reykjavik", o algo así). Forma parte de The Polyphonic Spree, de los que hablaré en un próximo post dedicado a bandas con más de veinte miembros, y se pasó el año pasado acompañando a Sufjan Stevens en giras, así que tiene unas credenciales bastante impresionantes.
Acaba de sacar su primer disco, "Marry Me". Reconozco que la primera vez que lo escuché me pareció un poco disperso, demasiado extraño. Pero al día siguiente me apetecía volver a escuchar la canción que abre el álbum, "Now, now", porque debajo de toda esa instrumentación poco convencional hay algo pegadizo de lo que es difícil desprenderse. Y ya que escuchaba la primera canción, pues la segunda también, y así hasta el final del disco. Ahora mismo es, junto con el último de Stars, mi obsesión musical del momento.
Os dejo aquí esa primera canción, "Now, now". Deberíais darla por lo menos un par de oportunidades antes de decidir si os gusta o no:

Annie Clark acaba de ganar un montón de puntos. En una entrevista en Pitchfork dice esto:
My favorite TV show right now and for all time is "Arrested Development". It's the best thing that ever happened to television. I named my album after it.
Pitchfork: I can't believe I never got that reference; "Arrested Development" is possibly my favorite show as well.
[laughs] And you know what? I only named it Marry Me because I thought Babysit Me was a little too awkward.
I mean it's-- I think, like, really good art is-- you come back to it over and over again and you always get something out of it, you can always enjoy it. And there are so many dimensions to it, there are so many levels to enjoy it. It's like the fucking Mona Lisa, the best-- well, I don't even know if I like the Mona Lisa-- but that's the best thing ever.
Pitchfork: I agree. That's great.
Totally. Whenever I think of the album I say to myself "Marry me!" [laughs] you know? It's in my brain. And I would get so confused doing interviews and stuff when nobody would get the joke, like they thought I was seriously saying, "marry me." They thought it was so sincere.
Así que, además de hacer uno de los discos del año, Annie Clark opina que Arrested Development es lo mejor que le ha pasado a la televisión en la historia.
Marry me.
